My Literacy Program Project
My Literacy Program Project
My initial idea for this project was a video because I thought it would be the most accessible medium to explain the benefits and joys of reading. And that was precisely my plan, to show off anything and everything I could think of about reading, in a way that would catch high school boys' attention. I had the idea of some kind of montage showing things kids my age might like (which proved harder to think about than I thought). I wanted something flashy but still precise, but it wasn't that easy and I ended up changing my vision.
In my video, I ended up showing some of the facts about how reading can benefit your life as well as general statements about why someone might enjoy reading. When I was working I tried to make something that I think is genuinely helpful and might get someone to start reading. I also included 10 book suggestions, 4 of which came from our class' "Daily Reading Minutes." The other 6 were suggestions from myself and from my family members. I haven't read all the books I suggested but when I was making the video, I got a feeling that I wanted to and that I might read more myself, which I guess was the purpose of the project in the first place. I also put a song (One that I really like) that I feel would probably catch high school boys' attention, at least initially.
I think my video is good and could probably inspire someone to become genuinely interested in reading. My video is not what I originally thought it would be, it isn't nearly as flashy, it doesn't have as many suggestions, and the information isn't presented as dynamically as I had hoped. However, I think my original idea was kind of unrealistic, I think I wanted something longer than what could feasibly keep someone's attention and still drive home the point that they should start reading. I think my video can and will be seen as cringy or just plain boring, but I'm okay with that as long as it could maybe inspire one or two kids to start reading, which I think it could. I couldn't have made a video that would appeal to everyone, and I think mine will always be able to appeal to someone, even if it's never a lot of people.
